Ira Coyne is the son of an art teacher. Paint has been his medium since he was a child and in many ways, making art for the public has been part of his arena since he was young. Ira was drawn to sign painting when he was a teenager, landing his first contract when he 19 years old. The sign came out OK. Ira persisted for a few years, learning along the way until he was taken under the wing of a real sign painter with formal training. It was with him that Ira learned the secrets of viscosity, opacity, brush control, balance, and design among other things sign painters hold sacred.

Brought my IG to work day. @alamoglassaustin dove in to their fun rebrand by @keithdavisyoung this week. I’ve been buying glass from Alamo for a couple years now solely based on their name and how sun worn the building was looking. I shared my work with the good folks at the counter every time I shopped there, left a couple cards and eventually Michael the owner hit me up. Knocking on doors is how I got started in 1998 and it’s still refreshing to make organic connections in 2026. Maybe more so since the phone/meta/matrix infrastructure became dominant. Or did it?
